Is direct employment for you?

Thinking it through

Think about direct employment and why you are interested. Be clear about the reasons.

Are you dissatisfied with your current arrangements? If so, why? Do you want more flexibility, choice and control about when and how support is provided? Do you want more choice and control about the type of person that provides the support? Do you have the time and energy to find out more?

Use your network

Consider talking to someone who is already a direct employer or direct employee to find out what it means in practice.

Do you know anyone you could speak to? Make a time to have a conversation. Prepare a list of questions to ask.

Responsibilities

Educate yourself about the responsibilities of what is involved.

What does a direct employer do?

Manage the money

Meet the financial obligations

Manage the people

Meet the social obligations
